Musical Redo

Funny story about my husband and my big mouth. Greg and I both love to shop Rusty by Design Auction. One weekend we were on a trip with our dear friends Janice and David at Breakfast Greg casually mentioned he was bidding on a stereo. I didn’t think much about it at that moment until he popped out of his chair and said BAZINGA! He won the bid in the auction and won this old stereo that had a radio, 8 track and record player. What in the world are we going to do with this thing and where is it going?

We argued over the where, what and no ways. We picked it up at the auction house the next week. It was the ugliest thing ever. I didn’t want it in the house much less where people could see it.

Here is where I say I was wrong, yes wrong. It wasn’t as big as I thought it was and everything worked. At first it stayed the ugly brown and we played it a lot. Our grandson loves it and likes to dance to the music. After a while I decided I liked having it around so it was time to make it look as pleasing as it sounded.

I lightly sanded it and wiped it down. Followed by 2 coats of smoked blue paint and 1 coat of brown glaze. I added 4 coats of satin clear finish to protect it and TADA it was done. Or so I thought, until I looked at the fabric speakers that had gold threads running through them. I found a miracle way to recover them without taking them out of the stereo. Brown shoe polish, yes that’s right brown shoe polish. I sat in the floor and taped the polish right onto the cloth speakers. Okay now TADA all finished!

It’s been a couple of years now and the stereo has been a big part of our family and friend get togethers. I can’t imagine this not being in our home. Greg and I play it sometimes when we are home doing things around the house. It fills our home with music and it’s so lovely.

Sometimes we Jump on the “I don’t like it wagon” before we give things or some people a chance. I did that with this stereo. I gave it a chance and opened up my thoughts to it and in the end it has been a blessing. This makes me think of how many times I have shut down my heart and mind to new things and people. I need to work on that and will in the future. I know that new things and people are good and can make your life blessed. Go out and open your heart and mind to new things, you might just find your Blue Happy.
