The Pillow Box

January 18, 2016

I love this idea so much. I’ve seen it done many ways and lately done with old drawers. What do you do if you don’t have an old draw? You improvise and make it work anyway.

My sweet friend Andrea who works at my Doctors office thought of me when they were tossing out old wood shelves. I wasn’t sure what to do with them until I got them home and put them in storage. In order to make room for the wood shelves had to move a stack of smaller old drawers. I bought the little drawers for a dollar a piece at a garage sale. Had no idea what a bonus these little drawers would be but at least one of them was a big bonus for this project.

I made a long box out of the shelves. I dismantled the small drawer and attached it to the fronts of the box. I added some metal legs that I removed from a piece of furniture I bought at an auction for only $7. I painted the outside of the box in a beautiful blue called Winning Prize.  The shelves were already painted cream-white and I just left the inside that color it seemed to work.  My motto is if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. As always I sanded the edges to give it a worn and old look. I gave it a couple of coats to clear finish. Finally I put new hardware on the drawer front. This hardware added so much character and gave it a fun look.

These old shelves, old drawer front and new hardware are now a pillow box to sit in any room of your home. You can fill it will pillows from your bed or extra pillows for company to sit on. There are lots of uses for this box other than pillows. You could use it at the back door for back packs, shoes, sport stuff or even blankets in the family room. We are always needing more storage that is quick and easy to access.

I love this pillow box it’s just another way to decoratively organize your home and space. This box was made for my bestie Karen.  She is so kind not to say anything but I always seem to put her last on the list of people I do art for.  I don’t do it on purpose but it always seems to work out that way.  I love her very much so I was focused this one would be for her.  I hope she loves it as much as I loved making it for her. One of Karens favorite things I do to my furniture pieces is the little bird inside the drawers and boxes.  So here you go Karen “This birds for you”.  Sometimes we put those we love last, this is something I want to work on this year.  Putting those that I love up front in my life and not in the back seat.  I hope your day is blessed and  Blue Happy Day!
