New Reveal Day Guest Room #1

March 30, 2016

Well now its Wednesday and another room is finished in this never-ending remodel. I think this room has a punch of Americana and a bit of a masculine twist. It’s red, white and blue with a touch of yellow.

I would say the bed is the center piece but the blue furniture is quiet the show stopper for me. The bed is done in all white linen and touches of red, white and blue. The yellow pillow just makes it happy for me.  The bed skirt and valance were bought at an estate sale for $8 WOW! The head-board was made from old pallets I found in my neighborhood. I added the metal scroll at the top to finish it out. I didn’t add any art above the bed because the bed itself is a piece of art work so I called it done with that.

This room is small so it couldn’t house to many pieces. The little secretary and chair was once my desk until I moved to my bedroom. I don’t really use it any more but I love it so I made a place for it in this room. It will be a great place for Ethan to do art or play with play do. I painted it with 2 coats of smoked navy Valspar, sanded the edges and finished it with 2 coats of clear finish. It turned out so cute even Greg liked it. The chair isn’t painted because I wanted it to stay the way my son found it and gave it to me. I recovered the seat over a year ago with this cute car fabric. Together these two make a great pair.

The dresser is soooooo amazing that I just wanna stare at it. I decided to sand and restained the top because the wood grain is fantastic. I painted, sanded and clear coated just like the desk. It sits in front of a very special painting given to me by McKenzie a former art student. She moved away, I miss our time doing art together on Saturday mornings. I’ve heard she is going to art school now.

Around the room I have several kinds of art and photography. Art from students, photography from my sons trip to London and photo’s of my sweet Frostie. All of these things make the room inviting and warm.

You don’t have to have lots of big bucks to redo a room. I’m not kidding when I say I only spent about $200 on this room. If I wouldn’t have bought a new bed set on clearance for $44 I would have been under $200. A redo can make a big statement without spending big. You just have to look around at what you have and repurpose those things. Give them a new color with paint or just move them from one room to the other. Refreshing a room makes you feel better in that room. I love to refresh, redo and recycle what I have. It makes me and my home Blue Happy. I hope the middle of your week is fabulous and Blue Happy. Thursday is another redo reveal so come on back to read the blog on Greg’s office.
