The Reality of DIY

March 25, 2016

On paper a DIY plan always looks good. You plan, make list and shop so when the day comes to start you are ready. I did all that, I made so many list that Greg started to think I was writing a book. I made sure that I had shopped for everything and it was ready to just put the rooms together. I scheduled the windows, the floor install and focused myself on the job at hand. It was the perfect weekend to do it because I was out of school until next Wednesday. Then reality hit, my plan didn’t go as planned.

On Monday the window guys showed up bright and early ready to work. I like that in a contractor getting the job off the ground when the sun comes up. We had a great window company that promised the job done in 2 full days. When I got home from school on Monday they were on the last window. Job well done and early to boot.

So on to the next step the install of the wood floors in guest room 1, 2 and the office. Thursday morning rolled around and in comes the installers for the floors. We have been told a day and a half. Pretty sure that want happen because of all the leveling that had to be done to the concrete. No fault of the flooring company just the way it is on Texas soil. What is finished is the office and it looks amazing. We were told we could move furniture in on Friday morning. Greg is like a child on Christmas Eve. He just can’t wait to get his office all back together. I’m glad that Greg is so excited but I’m a bit on the frustrated side.  I couldn’t get my furniture finished today because there was nowhere to work.  The floor guys were all over the house.  So you will have to wait for Monday when I reveal all the furniture I have redone for this massive redo.  So sorry to disappoint you but the waiting is gonna be worth it these pieces are going to be amazing. I thought that by tonight I would be moving at least the office back in and maybe one bedroom. After all time is running out the gathering at my house is on Saturday evening. Oh my I’m gonna be burning the midnight oil Friday night. What is weird I kinda like that pressure it fuels me to work harder. Rest assured that by 3:00 on Saturday all will be done and I will take a short nap before the party at 6.

Someone said to me this week your are crazy for all the projects you have along with the rest of your life. Funny I took that as a compliment. I thrive on doing, going and finishing. No more do I finish I’m starting a new project and I’m off and running. For me that is the way I live life. I don’t like down time. Although I do like a good Sunday afternoon floating in the pool with Greg and the puppies. I love time with my kids and family. I’m game for a long weekend on the road. I believe living life to its fullest, starting every day with pray and ending it that same way. My point to all this is choice. I choose to live life that way. There is no right or wrong way to live your life as long as you are living it on the Blue Happy side. I know plenty of people who are very happy with life that spend time reading books, watching old movies and not doing projects. Life is what we make it. You can’t get any more simple than that. If when you wake every day and life isn’t  making you happy CHANGE IT, SHAKE IT UP AND MOVE IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. I hope you have a fantastic Friday and it’s a Blue Happy day. Remember it’s a choice!
