The BIG Picture In Your Home Is……

June 7, 2016

Look let’s face it you can buy that amazing slightly rusted hutch or that just perfect old piece of wood wheel to hang over your entry table but without lighting it’s all just piece’s that will never shine. When it comes to lighting you can go to any big box Store and buy a package deal. They will help you cover every room in the house. While that is nice and your house will match all the way through. That’s not my style at all. I say nothing needs to match. The light fixture or lamp should have personality!!

In the past I have built and lived in 3 different homes. Every time we would sit in a room and the builder would lay out 3 or 4 sets of light packages. We would pick one and in it would go and that’s what we would live with until we’ve moved. I would see lighting I thought oh my that would be so great over my dinning table. I would pass it by because I thought for some reason it all had to match.Fast forward to the house I have now and I’m not in that trap anymore. This was a preowned home and nothing matched, not even the lighting. I was so excited finally I could do what I wanted. One of my favorites lamps I found at a thrift store. It has this amazing embossed  leaf pattern all over it. When I purchased it the color was dirty white. I used spray paint in blue of course and added a burlap shade.

Over Greg’s all beloved poker table is an oval-shaped light that he picked out and brought home. He announced this is the light I want cause it’s my room. I think he thought I would protest, nope I liked so it was a go. It’s bronze in color with off white shades it compliments the oval table well.

My very favorite light fixture in my house came from an old hotel in Dallas. I snagged it off Craigslist for $80. It hangs over my dinning table. I’ve had all kinds of remarks like oh my that is beautiful, to don’t you think it’s to big. Yes it’s very big and my dinning room is a mere 14×16 but I don’t care because it’s magical when it’s on.

Lighting is the most important purchase you do to make your home complete.  It doesn’t have to be new. You can change it with a can of spray paint and half an hour.  Cost is not what makes it good lighting, it’s the magic it creates when it’s on.  I hope you are having a fabulous Tuesday and it’s Blue Happy.
