Blue Happy Living Birthday Give Away!

July 15, 2016

July 1st was really the 1 year birthday for Blue Happy Living. I had already promised the story of what happened on June 1st so I had to do what I promised. It’s hard to believe that I started this blog a little over a year ago.  I have loved every minute of sharing with you the redo’s, makeovers and reveals not to mention my heartfelt blogs about my life.  I can’t imagine not blogging and sharing  with you all.  So get ready Blue Happy Living will continue.

I wanted to do something very special for the BHL birthday.  So I had this great idea how to celebrate  what I loved to do.  I’m gonna give away today’s redo piece on today’s blog.  Yep that’s right I’m gonna give away today’s make over! All you have to do to get in on the give away is 3 simple things.  Find us on Facebook, go to today’s blog post, then do 1, 2 & 3 steps and you are in.  Here are the steps:

  1. Like the post with your icon reaction (like, heart or face)
  2. Make a comment about the blog
  3. Share the post with your friends with a comment on how they can get in on the drawing

That’s it then your name goes into the drawing.  I will do the drawing on Monday morning and post the winner.  If you live close I will deliver it to you in person but, if you live far away I’ll ship it to you. So let’s have some fun and celebrate the 1 year mark of BHL.

Today’s piece is from my neighborhood trash day.  I was trolling and found it on the curb.  When I trash troll it’s dark outside and sometimes it’s hard to tell if the piece is good or bad.  When I found this cabinet I thought it was in great shape but it wasn’t.  When I got it back to my studio it has lots of water damage to the side of it.  If it were real wood I could fix it but it’s press wood and that stuff swells when it gets wet.  You might think it’s a complete fail piece of furniture but it’s not.  Small bits and pieces can be salvaged for other projects and the hardware is also a keeper.  I removed the long glass door on the front to save the hinges and the knob and that is when it hit me I can use the glass door and turn it into a great piece of organizing decor.

Once I had removed all the hardware from the door I painted the door out in teal.  Taping off the glass is such a pain but the crisp edges when you remove the tape is so nice.  I sanded my edges to age the piece and put on  a satin clear coat for protection.  Now to add the hardware to make it into a great piece for the home. I used the old knobs painted out in apple green for hooking things on to organizing.  I used stencils over lapping and added in a bit of color and interest.  The final touch is the word  Happy.  I painted it out in black so that it would pop out from the frosted glass and grab your attention.

I’ve learned over the years that there is something good in everything and every person.  You just have to look deep enough and find it.  If I would have just passed this piece up or tossed it out I would have missed a great opportunity.  From curbside to salvaged and turned into an organized decor piece that’s  great and awesome any way you look at it.  It’s all about the recycle, redo/renew and giving thought to what can be next for these tossed out pieces.  Make sure you follow the 1, 2,3 steps so you get in on the drawing.  I’ll draw on Monday so that gives you the weekend to share with your friends.  It’s Friday and your weekend is here so go make it Blue Happy!
