Dollar Store Decorating and Organizing on A $1

July 21, 2016

Decorating and organizing your home can be expensive at times.  With back to school just around the corner you extra money has to go towards school supplies, clothing and all the little things it takes for back to school.  I decided I would drive down to my local Dollar Tree and see what I could find that you could  decoratively organize with.

I really didn’t have any room in mind I thought I would just let the creative juices flow and see what happened.  I had my daughter with me so I could bounce idea’s off her.  Sometimes I can go a bit off the deep end on things like this so she was there to reel me in.  First off I saw the cutest little half box with a large magnet on the back.  I know what this could be used for because it is a pet peeve of mine.  I brought it home and placed it on the front of my frig.  I see my husband and kids use paper towels to wipe their hands and mouth because they are closer than the napkins.  So I filled the box with pretty napkins.  Now there is no excuse on wasting paper towels. Napkin anyone!

Love love love this next one for organizing.  I have a cabinet over my toilet in my master bathroom.  I use it to put extra toilet paper and cleaning supplies. The toilet paper is easy to store because it stacks nicely one on top of the other.  The cleaning supplies just looks messy and it is.  Again with the containing things but honestly it looks so much better.  The soft cloth boxes are great for not only organizing the cleaning supplies but could be used in any cabinet or closet to get the clutter under control.

When I saw this great idea I thought I was gonna singgggggg.  It will add a decorative touch to your home and make your guest feel welcome.  As you know from reading past blogs I love quotes and words around my home.  I found these great stickers of art for doors, walls, window and mirrors.  I decided to put one on my long dressing mirror in my bathroom and one on the entryway closet door just inside my front door.  I had to take the picture of the one on my mirror at a weird angle so that you could see it.  It is very light when you look into the mirror, you barely see it but it adds such a nice flare.  The quote was the perfect thing for the door and a way to greet my guest, both were so easy to use. You just peel them off the paper and place them where you want them, rub them down and call it done.

When my son was in school we would start the year off with a great lunch box that cost on the upper end of $15-$20.  Every year within a few months he would come home without it.  Lost and found was a nightmare and most of the time we never found it.  So much money over the years lost never to be recouped.  I found this great lunch box set up all around the store.  Each piece was carefully picked to fit in this cute little lunch box. My grandson is starting kindergarten this year and he loves Paw Patrol so this will be perfect.  If he forgets it and it goes to the never-ending pile in lost and found no biggie we only have $5 invested. A far cry from buying one that cost a lot more at one of the local discount stores. I added this cute little ice pack shaped like a monkey.  The ice packs at the grocery store are much larger and cost about $5.  Ethan is ready for lunch next year and he is doing it for the grand total of $6.  WOW!

Finally getting ready and out the door with small children in the morning can be a bear.  When my kiddo’s were young I always laid out their clothing for the next day.  I would hang it over a chair or on a door knob so we could get to it easy. Lots of times in the night it would fall to the floor and be wrinkled by the morning.   At the Dollar Tree I found a package of 2 hooks that hang over the door.  Great to hang the next day outfit on or how about hanging out 5 shirts and 5 pants the entire week of clothing.  You could maybe put a basket near by or on the floor with socks in it.  How great would your morning go if you didn’t have to search for clothing.

    1. Love these ideas!!!!! I will be making a trip this weekend to our dollar tree! I love organization and can’t stand clutter. It’s amazing how much better just putting it in the basket made it look! I hung a shoe pocket rack over our laundery room door and it holds all of my cleaning supplies. It makes it easy to find everything! Have a blessed day friend!
