A Reveal That Was An Honor To Do

August 8, 2016

Well my friend Rachel has a beautiful little girl named Anika. She is the sweetest thing and I so enjoyed sitting down and talking to her about what she wanted in her room. As most little girls are it was very clear that storage was top of the list for all the little girl items. So many little pieces every where in her room. I remember those days with my own little girl and things haven’t changed.

Blue Happy Living

Anika wanted green that she referred to as mint green, chevron and flowers that seem to be what she talked about the most. Rachel and I talked about the wall color being gray with the accent wall having chevron in white. Together we decided that the bedding would have the mint green. Rachel was great about it all she kinda just gave me the go ahead to do what I wanted and how I wanted.

As I start working on any project things begin to spin in my creative head and that can sometimes change the plans. Sometimes I can get in trouble because I can let things get out of control. I wanted to make sure that I gave Anika everything she wanted but I had to put my own twist on the design.IMG_0130

While the family was away I entered their home and let my artist soul take over. As I started to put the chevron up on the wall I thought to myself how can I make this different. I just didn’t want to paint the wall gray and then chevron white over it. While that is really nice it didn’t have any flare to it and I wanted it to have flare. I left went back to my studio and pulled all my stencils and went back to the house. I started layering and adding different styles one over the other. I did include her chevron and so much more. I added three different colors layered over the white. Style, flare and Anika’s ideas were all wrapped up into one design over the bed.IMG_0139 IMG_0135 IMG_0155

When I spoke to Rachel she showed me two piece’s that were important to her. The book shelf and the table set were made by a family member. She wanted them to be used in Anika’s room. I sanded them both down and painted them out white to match the bedroom furniture. The shelf was placed next to the bed and I added baskets lined with gray and white fabric. These I’m sure will be full of little girl items in no time. The table set was placed on the other side of the room. It’s a great place for Anika to do homework, art or play dress up. The white paint gave it a fresh updated look for many more years of play time. On top of the table I added more storage with boxes to keep supplies in and a mirror for playing dress up.

On top of the dresser you will notice the old bread box that I blogged about a few weeks ago. This is where Anika can keep all her hair and jewelry pieces. On the opposite end of the dresser I place a necklace display and a bracelet bar for some her favorite pieces. Having things organized and where you can find them makes it easier to use them and keeps your room picked up.

All around the room I placed storage and little surprises for Anika to use. In all I added 10 places for her to store things with all the boxes and basket. On her nightstand I put one more box for her to put things she would need handy while in bed. I notice she had a pile of little kleenex on her night stand so I found this tiny mint green trash can and sat it on the floor next to he bed. I made sure I used things that were already in her room so she felt like it was her room. The keys that were painted and hanging made a great art  with all its creativity.

I looked and looked for an idea for a window treatment. Just a plain valance wouldn’t work in this special room. I ended up in the fabric department at Walmart. I found these great little squares of fabric in all the right colors but, NO TIME TO SEW! So what to do? Go get a package of black pony tail holders and make it work. If you think about it and use your imagination it looks like little prom dresses hanging all in a row.

That’s it, the room is done.It is full of recycled, shabby chic, vintage and decorative  organizing.   It was so much fun creating a room that a little girl feels good in. Mom sent me a text Sunday afternoon to let me know that Anika and Mom loved it. I’m so glad that she was okay with all the changes I made from the first day we talked. I can’t wait to do the next room full of organizing space. Monday is the best day of the week it’s your chance to start fresh. Hope your Monday is Blue Happy!
