An Arrangment

March 29, 2017

There is always a way to work with what you have. I bought a box lot from an auction house. I was after one thing in the box when I bought it. Greg teased me because he said I had all this extra stuff to deal with. I opened my mouth and said I can make anything out of anything. He then said “you wanna bet”? Well I stepped right into that one, didn’t I.

So here is the first piece I need to make something out of. This metal vase might be the thing that takes me down. I mean really what do you do with a vase, how in the world do you change that to make it shabby chic friendly. Well out came the Valspar spray paint. I used dark gray because the metal was dark so I knew I would fight that with a lighter color. I finished the paint job set back and looked at it for a bit. Then it hit me it needs something in the vase. Something that is different but still has the worn and loved look. I’m not a fan of fake flowers at all, But I had an idea so off to the old wood stash behind my work shop.

In that stash I have many different kids and pieces of wood in all shapes and sizes. I pulled out a few spindles and boards that were well weathered. I added teal paint to one board, gray to the other and made the spindles bright green. The next step was sanding and clear coating. Now I arranged them in the vase to look like a flower arrangement. The spindles are like the greenery and the gray and teal board are like the flowers.  I’d like to call it a shabby chic modern arrangement. It’s very different and I’d say it’s not for everyone because it is so different.  It can be used on a table, shelf, niche or on the floor next to a table.  What ever you use it for it will be a statement piece.  I’m sure it will  be the subject of conversation at your next gathering in your home.

What ever you do don’t challenge me because I will strive to win.  I’m competitive in a bad way and do not like to be second place.  I pushed it to the limits on this one, but the project came out really nice.  My daughter loved it and so did some of my friends I shared it with.  When you are recycling, redoing or reusing  make sure you think out of the box.  Don’t be normal or ordinary just to play it safe.  Step off and roll with it.  You never know when and where you will be challenged.  Go for it and you will find your Blue Happiness. Hoping your Wednesday is full of memories.
