Out Of Control

March 20, 2017

For the past few weeks we have been running around like crazy. During the week we are both working and don’t have much time for anything else. On the weekend it’s all things Blue Happy fun and business. So there isn’t much time for cleaning, organizing or yard work. We solved the yard work thing by hiring a yard guy and my house is very clean I seem to find time here and there to get it done. Now here is where things went wrong. My garage, oh my goodness my garage. It was the catch-all for things I didn’t have time to do. I would buy some furniture and not have time to put in my storage unit, so it went in the garage. I would work on a project and it would get late so I’d put all my tools in the garage until later. Later seem to be never and things where beginning to get miss placed. We would look for a tool and it wasn’t were it should be. Some how the garage had eaten it and it was lost. Oh how I hate to look for anything so something had to be done. I did it in 1 sunny Texas afternoon.

What needed to be done was a complete over haul of the garage.  I avoided it as much as I could but everyday it was in my face ever time I had to leave the house or come home.  I would sit in my truck and watch the garage door go up and my stomach would turn.  Really it made my stomach turn.  When I had to leave there it was again all in my face.  I had managed to put things carefully so we could still park but it was about to get to the point of pushing our Mini Cooper and Truck into the drive way to park.  So on Sunday afternoon I started the task of cleaning out and organizing our garage.  Wow what a task but I used my old faithful method of cleaning and by 5:30 I was done.  It’s a good thing I got done when I did because my bolt of energy I woke with was gone.  My faithful cleaning method is to make stacks of things that will go in the same place.  So I had a stack for the work shop, my art studio, storage unit and in the house.  By doing this it saves time so you aren’t walking all over the place putting one thing at a time up.  When you put up a stack you are going in one direction saving time and steps.  Once everything was out of the garage and put away in the right place I swept the floor and dusted off the base boards.  For someone like me this was so fulfilling. Knowing that I finished the garage in one day made my day.  I was so tired and bed time was around 8:30.

It was easy to clean and organize the garage because my work shop, studio, house and storage unit are well-organized.  Putting things away went fast and easy because of that.  I made two trips to the storage unit, 1 BIG truck load went to a donation drop box and I walked at least 3 miles taking things to put away in the shop, house and studio.  It feels so good to get things done and will make my days easier.  Keeping it organized will be the real challenge to come.  It has been a great weekend with time well spent with my bestie Karen having dinner and many laughs.  A little work, a little play made it a Blue Happy weekend with memories made.
