I’m On A Roll and Moving On

April 27, 2017

Things that roll are golden. Moving things around to better organize only makes perfect sense. Stable unmoving furniture is important but if it moves it becomes so much more. My name is LaTonya and I have addiction to casters.

If you can put a caster on it then do. I have created many pieces on this blog and by far my favorite pieces are the ones that move.  Take any ordinary cabinet or night table and add casters that baby can roll all over your house offering tons of storage.  One of my very favorites was a cabinet I did for one of the sidewalk sales at Doc Holliday’s.  Not only did I add casters I added all kinds of storage all the way around it.  I used coordinating colors on the drawers with a cream-white body and stained top.  In the back of the cabinet I added a drawer for hidden storage, plus a drawer on the side bottom. If it had a place to have a storage area I found it.  This piece sold really fast that day, not surprised at all.  Although I was sad because if it hadn’t sold that day it was back in my truck to my house that night.

Recently I finished a piece that was made up of many different piece I had found many different places.  I wanted to do it in colors that could be used in any home, business or even a school room.  Although this piece doesn’t have storage underneath or in the back the larger  deep drawers makes for some pretty great storage.  I love this for a hairdresser how great to add a bit of vintage shabby chic decor to your booth.  Not to speak of how cute this would be in a teachers room to hold those special things used every day.  So many places to use it to organize and store things.

I’m pretty sure I need a support group for people who have an addiction to casters.  At the next sidewalk sale Doc Holliday’s is having almost all of the pieces I’m bringing are on casters.  It only makes sense to me to have the ability to move furniture from room to room.  Life changes and so does the need for storage and organizing in our homes.  Families grow, guest come, we up size, we down size and then we become empty nesters at some point.  Furniture that can adapt to your life style what ever the stage you’re in is a big winner.

Here is a sneak peek at a couple of the caster piece’s I’ve finished for the side-walk sale May 13th.  Any and all of these piece would be a great mothers day gift.  I’m offering 20% off on that weekend! The cube storage unit was on my blog a few weeks ago.  It’s very versatile for the home and could be great as an entry piece, bathroom storage, kiddo’s room for toys and books, kitchen or bedroom.  I just finished the teal blue wire cart.  It was so ugly when I found it at an estate sale with its yellow paint job and boy was it dirty.  I cleaned it up, painted it with Valspar project paint and then added the wood.  I decided it would be best to line the bottom of the wire baskets.  After I sanded the boards I painted them with white paint and wiped most of it off so the wood grain showed through.  I did a clear coat finish and called it done.  Again this piece is so versatile in any room of the house, office or school room. It can be used with or without the boards.

Rolling organizing storage is the way to go.  When you don’t need that extra storage in that room it’s easily moved to another room.  I for one love this idea and all that it adds to your home.  It’s an easy way to roll Blue Happy organizing where ever you need it.
