Simple but Powerful

July 27, 2017

Sometimes we all make things way more than they really are.  How many times have you or a friend made a big deal out of something that really wasn’t.  I’ve done my fair share of that even to a point of over the top reaction.  That got me nothing more than trouble right back in my face.  As I get older I’m trying to sit back and look at what is going on before I react.  It doesn’t always work out that way because my stubbornness  gets the best of me.  My mouth runs the race before my thoughts do.  Sometimes when I get a creative vive it all works out well.  I process through the idea and let my creativity flow until the project is done.  There are those times that I let my excitement get ahead of me and well I end up with a mess.  The great thing about creating a project you can recreate it if things go wrong or in a direction you didn’t want to travel.

Not every piece of furniture has to be a complete redo.  Restoring and updating is what I strive to do to each and every piece.  Sometimes a piece comes into my studio and I think it’s just beautiful the way it is.  Other times I get things in my studio that well need lots of TLC.  Let me be honest it needs more than TLC sometimes it’s a complete over haul, revamp with lots of nails and glue. Recently Greg bought a piece that is just  beautiful.  We were at an estate sale and he found it way before I did.  As a matter of fact I walked past it a couple of times.  He even got a half price deal just by asking.  This piece can serve as an end table next to the couch or next to your bed as a night stand.  It’s really unique with its hardware and legs.

When it got to my studio I started to evaluate just what to do with it.  The top was is excellent shape and it was clear someone had taken care of it.  This was a piece that called for simple but with a punch of color for power.  I almost felt like I was being lazy because there were no repairs, no sanding and no glueing of anything.  I simple polished the top, painted the base and the legs, sanded, clear coated and reattached the hardware.  That was it, I spent the better part of the day looking at it trying to think of what else needed to be done.  There is that over thinking thing. I just needed to let this one be as simple as it was.  No over reaction needed to make it a beautiful piece for someone’s home.  I couldn’t believe how with not much work at all it is now restored with an updated look. I love when things turn out this Blue Happy.  I’m excited for someone to have this in their home and enjoy it for years to come. It has all the things that can make your home warm, shabby chic, vintage and restored.

This little beauty is already up at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Tx.
