Comfort of a Stool

October 11, 2017

Months ago I removed the stools from my kitchen because they were so dangerous. They were way to tall and often people who visited would fall over. My kitchen has hard tile floors. When my grandson fell over and hit his head that was it. The stools were really tall with a base that was too small. So when you would sit on them they toppled over easy. I didn’t want to trash them so I turned them into other things. One became a side table and the other became a patio cold drink holder. Both sold through my booth at Doc Holliday’s to customers that seem really happen with the restored stools.

I love to have stools in various places in my home. Sometimes a stool can fit in a place that a chair can’t. Great for sitting putting on your shoe, as an extra seat at the table for a guest or just about anywhere extra seating is needed. I wanted to replace the stools that I removed. I haven’t found any until the last couple of weeks. Rustybydesignauction.com provided one stool one week and a week later a second stool. They aren’t a perfect match but close enough for me. Once painted out and I add my artsy touch they will be perfect. Look for these beauties to be spot lighted on the blog in a few weeks.

There is two stools in my house that are a bit special. Ethan has two special places that stools fit perfect. One is a little red stool that really doesn’t have a permanent home. It floats all around from the kitchen where he writes on the mirror, in the poker room where he loves to play on a vintage phone that hangs on the wall or in anyone of the bathrooms to wash his hands. The other stool is at a very small table that we call Ethan’s place. It is where I keep his crayons, paper, books and a few toys. He knows that is his place and he can get into what ever is in that space. I bought a small metal stool that fits perfect underneath the table.

My project this afternoon was a stool that I picked up from Rusty’s auction. It was in perfect shape with no issues at all so I tossed it in my truck and restored it within a few hours. It is wicker on top and looks almost like it’s yarn after it was painted, The bottom base was painted and sanded back for a vintage look. I used chalk country paint and defender on the entire stool top to bottom.

Stool a funny little word that brings so much help to many places in your home. I do have other stools in my home put these seem to be the ones that give the most use and help. Do you have an old stool that needs to be restored? Why not do something special to it, make it a big Blue Happy part of your home and add some color.
