I’ve Looked Everywhere & Still Nothing

The simplest change can make your home feel like you had a remodel.  Taking a day to concentrate on one room in your home decluttering, painting and moving the furniture around makes a world  of difference.  Fresh paint takes away everyday odors in the house and leaves the room with a renewed look that makes everything seem new.  For as little as $200  of paint and a few recycled items from a thrift store, garage or estate sale you can get a big impact to your home.  If you really wanted to get crazy you could redo a room for less than $100 depending on the size of the room.  Cut the cost by also recycling  what you have right back into the room.  Right here is where I would post the before picture, but sadly there is no such picture anywhere to be found.  I’ve lost it somewhere in this phone, cloud and lack of tech knowledge thing.  I’m working on getting better at this I promise.  So just close your eyes and pretend you can see it without the beautiful redo.

If you have a wood table with chairs in your kitchen or dining room that is boring lets spruce it up a bit.  I bought this wood round table at an Rustybydesignauction.com it had no chairs.  In a later auction Rusty’s offered 4 chairs that where beautiful and already had the seats recovered.  To be honest I had planned on recovering the chairs anyway but when I picked them up they were beautiful.  My thought was why fix what ain’t broke, so I went with the leopard print seats.  I hadn’t painted the table yet when I got the chairs but the color of the chairs where in great shape so again I went with it.  Now for the table to get a make over.  It was a boring oak table from the 80’s I’m sure of that with it’s orange yellow brownish stain job.  It didn’t have the leaf with it so it’s forever a small round table.  Great for any small dining space in any home. A few hours of sanding it took to get that awful stain and clear coat off the top of the table. Once I sanded through that mess the real fun began.  Staining the top a lighter brown and painting the base Santa’s Coal from Chalk Country paint pulled the chairs and table together.  I sanded back the table base for that Shabby Chic look.  The Chairs needed a bit sanding as well to make them match the table base.  I gave it all 2 coats of Defender clear finish  to finish it off.

Once mix matched and from two different times in furniture life it’s now a great set to put love in your home.  You don’t have to buy new,  redo and reuse what you have.  If it’s an old set that has seen better days step out of your box and pick a color that will add pop to your home.  What ever the piece of furniture it can be recycled for next to nothing.  Chalk Country paint is $28 for a quart and that will go a long way adding that pop.  Finish off your table area by adding a large piece of art or a cluster of small  pieces of art on the wall behind the table.   Making over a room with what you have can only make your holiday’s  brighter.
