They Are Every Where Yep!

September 6, 2016

When I was a kid my daddy had one and just about every teacher I had in school. If you went into someones business on top of their desk you would find one. Back then they were important to the running of any office or class room. Today they are collecting dust in thrift stores, in the back of closets and even piling up in the land fields. I’m talking about this sturdy metal 2 drawer index card filing box. They were all this ugly tan color with 2 drawers and a place to put a name card on the front. Some people had more than one and would stack them up really tall. Along came computers and these little boxes were no longer needed and pushed aside.

I forgot to take a before picture before I started the redo oops! I did manage to take a picture of the side of it before I painted that side so that you could see the color. This is for those of you that are to young to even know what I’m talking about. See it’s this gross ugly tan color that looks so office. It’s not warm and homey at all. So I decided I needed to do something with these cabinets because well I have a few. Okay it’s more than likely on the border of hoarding.

I light sanding with a sanding block to get off the shine. I used Valspar spray paint. Make sure what ever paint you decide to use is for metal. You can’t take the handles off because of the way they are attached so I just painted them out with the drawer fronts. I decided to paint the inside and outside of the drawer. By doing that it makes it more uniform. I gave it a couple of coats to make sure it was all covered. Once I let it dry for about two hours it was ready to be juiced up a bit. Depending on what you are going to use it for will depend on what you put on top. I’m making this one for a dresser or vanity  in a  bedroom or bathroom. It will be used for make up and personal hygiene items. It could also be used in the kitchen for storing packets of seasonings, BBQ tools or even used to store k-cups for your coffee machine. This one is for the bathroom so I’m gonna use a stencil that will look good with a bathroom. I used one that would cover the entire top and spray painted it in off white. I didn’t have to use a clear coat finish because the spray paint had one built-in already.

Now its ready to be used in any bathroom for storage. I know that my make up is in an ugly plastic box and this would make it easier to organize things. I could even put make up in one drawer and my brushes, combs, hot irons in the other. Organizing your things you use everyday in a decorative way only make getting ready a Blue Happy time. Hope that your Monday is going great it’s the best day of the week!
