Estate Sale Treasure’s

January 20, 2016

I’m not sure I could ever go back to buying new.  I hope this shabby chic style stays in forever because it really is my home place.  I use to think I was hip and modern in decorating style. I have found as I get older I like what I like, old or new if it makes my heart pump I want to live with it.  My home is my place of safe, love, comfort and happy.  So when I want something I keep a running list in my phone. When I go to estate sales I make sure I go over my list so not to miss anything.

I’m not one for buying things unless I need or have a place for it in my home.  On occasion I find things that I want to redo for myself or for family and friends.  When I moved into my home 5 plus years ago I bought everything I needed at estate sales like trash cans, furniture, art, dishes and so much more.  Most of the time a little bite of elbow grease will make it look brand new or at least clean.

This past Saturday I went out to find a few things we had on the list.  The top thing on my list was a wood bench for my front porch and a couple of lounge chairs to set with the red table on the patio.  Greg was focused on water hose to a point of driving me crazy.  Every sale we went to he would rush to the garage or patio to see if they had one.  If not rush, rush, rush he wanted to go to the next sale.  The first few sales not much was found a few small items for Blue Happy to paint and redo but nothing on our list for our home.  There were 2 more sales to go to and jack pot I hit pay dirt a beautiful teak wood bench.  It was in excellent condition because the owners had kept it on the patio for years.  It was priced at $100 but today 25% off.  We weren’t in my Kia so no way to get it home.  When I ask what time they would open in the morning she said 10 and everything would be 50% off then.  As I walked away she said if you want to pay for the bench I’ll give it to you for $55 and you can pick up in the morning. If I waited until in the morning to get it for $50 someone else might get it so I paid the $55 and now it’s mine.  This new bench will perfect when we redo the front porch in late May.  Now that will be a great blog to look out for.

Off to the next sale and then home.  Greg was getting a bit discouraged because he hadn’t found anything he was looking for and no water hose in sight.  He almost didn’t go to the next sale but because it was on the way home he stopped.  Good thing he did because there were the 2 patio chairs I was looking for.  New at Target these chairs sold last year for over $100 a piece.  I snagged them for $18.75 and that was for the pair.  We hit the sale an hour before it was over and they were cutting prices big time.  As we folded the chairs to load them Greg noticed a garden hose hanging on the wall.  He got it for the big price tag of $6.50 and now he was Blue Happy.

I love love estate sales, garage sales and thrift stores.  I know it’s not for everyone but it is for me.  I love to rescue, redo and diy my way to a beautiful home.  Most everyone that comes to my home that doesn’t know how I shop or where I buy are shocked when I tell them.  When I tell them that a lot comes from what others toss out for the garbage man they really drop their jaw.  My home is full of creativity and love.  That is what makes me Blue Happy and comfortable with my home.  I hope that you fill your home with the love of things that make you Blue Happy also.
