This Makeover Is Gonna Be BIG

May 9, 2018

I’ve not had time to take on any big makeovers to my home the past 2 summers. I spent them recovering from my skin removal surgery. Not this summer I’m ready for a BIG summer projects, pool time and fun. I also plan on a few trips here and there with Greg.

I’m starting with a project bigger than I have ever taken on. I’m to cheap to pay someone so it’s all me this summer working to get this finished by July 4th weekend. I don’t wanna plan for longer because I have other plan most of July and I must have this done. What’s the big project? Oh it’s so big for once I’m nervous about getting it done. I love that Greg is on board and gave me the go ahead. So here we go on a complete makeover to the exterior of our home.

Our home was built-in the early 90’s.  The gray speckled brick was popular back then but not so much these days.  We didn’t like the brick so much when we bought the house 8 years ago but we knew someday we would change it.  Now here we are standing at the summer of change.  We also want to add accents to the house using cedar. This will warm it up to match the comfortable shabby chic farmhouse decor inside.  We just painted the trim 18 months ago so that will stay the say.  I will build the new paint color and accents to work with that color.

I started by going to Lowes and picking three colors.  I came home and put them on brick at the back of our house.  Colors 1 and 2 look almost the same. 😳 I need to look at it for a few days.  I gotta be honest I’m not sure that any of these colors are the one.  So back to Lowes in the morning to collect more samples.  I wanna make sure I get this right so no regrets.

The cedar accents will start at the arch to the left of the house photo.  I’ve always wanted to pull that out and make it standout.  I’ll be adding Cedar in other small spaces to pull it all together.  I even have a surprise accent that is a touch of wrought iron.  All of this will work together to give our home a new and refreshed look.  My plans are to have it all worked out by May the 19th so I can begin my hard work.

The final part of the makeover will be the land scaring.  We hated the over grown landscape and it’s already ripped out and gone.  We have no sun most of the day because of the trees.  I’m working with a garden center to pick the best shade, low water and Texas worthy plants.  I also want them to be plants that come back or stay evergreen.  The most I want to do is add color each year around the door way.  We already started the flower bed makeover by adding a new concrete border.  I love the curses added to make the beds bigger.  I’m not a fan of the metal trim at all.

Well in a nut shell that is the first part of my summer.  June is booked with Blue Happy Project, stocking runs to Doc Holliday’s and Waco stores.  There are small weekend get aways and my 35 year class reunion in the last of June.  I love projects, busy summers and free time at our pool.  Summer revives me and refuel’s my artistic soul.
