Do You Dread This?

October 8, 2018

Life happens so fast. Before you know your to-do list has grown to the size of Texas. Last year around the holiday’s you promised yourself that you wouldn’t wait until the last-minute to ready your home for next years holiday festivities. Well next year is here, so are you ready. Is your guest room ready? Have your cleaned out things and organized things? Well I’ve got a plan to put you back on track.

Let’s talk guest room. There is no reason to go out and buy all new to remake your room. Take what you have and add a few things and your guest room will be refreshed and ready to go. These idea’s can be applied to any room in your home. No need to break the bank just before the holiday’s. Let’s get started with a statement piece Because Christmas is 11 1/2 weeks away.

First thing first lets clean out the room from any clutter we don’t need, want or use. Wipe down the walls, clean those base boards and wipe down all the furniture. Now your ready to start with the statement piece. Dressers are in almost every bedroom any of us have and that is where we will start. The dresser can be that piece that sets the tone for the entire room. We need to pick a color and paint the baby. I don’t care if you buy my brand of paint or another. Just remember I’ve tried almost all of them and I did settle on Chalk Country. If you are local you can pick some up at Doc Holiday’s or you can also order on the Chalk Country website or even Amazon. Chalk paint is the easiest paint to use. No hard prep work just a good old fashion cleaning, let it dry and your ready to paint. It really is that simple. I’ve shared with the process on how to paint, sand back and clear coat for protection so you ready to jump in. You don’t have to pick a way out there color keep it simple go for refreshed and fabulous.

I’ve picked 2 dressers to share with you. Dressers #1 was old dark and out dated. Fresh Chalk Country paint in Crisp Collar gave it a new and updated Farmhouse chic look. Not only could this be used in the bedroom but the laundry room as well as an entry way piece. From dark and drab to chic and fresh.

Dresser #2 oh what can you say about that ugly red stain so over used in the 1960’s.  Now this is a little harder of a redo if you are picking any shade of white to cover up that mess.  The red will bleed through and you will get a pretty little pick piece if you aren’t  careful.  You could spend hours striping and sanding to remove all that stain or you can block it.  I use one coat of clear finish first. It blocks the stain and your get the white piece you wanted.  I picked from the Chalk Country paint in the green shades.  This is called Vintage Olive.  It has a green tint but can lean-to the tan or taupe color chart.

Both dresser were boring and gave no life to the rooms they were housed in.  By adding coloring it refreshed the piece and gives you a base to redecorate for the holiday’s.  If you have a side table or even a chair adding the same color to other pieces only pulls the room together more.  Remember Rome wasn’t built-in a day and getting ready for the holiday’s wasn’t done on Christmas Eve.
