New Addition To Our Home

November 20, 2019

You know I spend a lot of time redoing things for other peoples homes. I’m out on a daily bases looking for those special piece to restore and give new life to. I get so busy sometimes that I don’t do those projects for my own home. I have lots of ideas and dreams of things that will make our already lovely home special. Greg often ask are we gonna do that project in the backyard, bathroom or family room. As I run out the door to Waco, to paint in my studio or go shop a thrift store I always say soon honey soon. Well soon arrived this week with all this up and down weather. I surprised Greg while he was out of town with a couple of redo’s for our home.

We have a dressing area just out side of our master bedroom closet. It’s great but only one of us could sit on the small bench to put our shoes on. This area is also just outside of our walk in shower. If you forget to grab a towel at the front of the bathroom you gotta get out of the shower dripping all the way across the floor. This new piece puts the towels just outside the shower. Greg will be ever so happy for this because he has always hated where the towels were. He also gets frustrated that I always leave a puddle of water right in front of his sink.

I got a text one day from a friend that ask if I was interested in this TV cabinet. It’s a low boy with great storage and sliding doors. The shelf is adjustable so I could make room for towels below and extra supplies above. Mostly items we use in the shower so now they are easy to see and easy to grab. I was contemplating a long dresser here but wanted it to have glass doors of some kind. When this piece was given to me I knew immediately how and where it would go. Honestly it sat in my garage waiting on me to get to it. Everyday I passed it and thought I need to do that. We all look at a piece of furniture and think it only has one purpose. If you put your head around it and think of how a piece can be something other than what it is WOW the places a piece could go in your home. That is what happened with this once TV stand turned bathroom organizing cabinet.

I said I did a couple of projects for our home.  Greg and I love when I grand kids are over to visit.  My oldest grand child doesn’t really like to play pretend much any more so this project was for the 2 little grands.  They love to play tea party at my house.  As a matter of fact both of them ask just that as soon as they walk in the door.  I have a tea set but not a table and chairs for them to play at.  They both just sit at my coffee table and play tea party there.  So why not turn the coffee table into a tea party table and add some seating.  I found the first chair already painted out blue and ready to go.  I needed one more chair and I happened to have one in my stash of treasures.  I quickly painted it out in one of my favorite blues and now we have a tea party table in the middle of our family room. It just so happens to be a coffee table on those non tea party days.  Greg loves to sit on the sofa and watch them play. It is one of the sweetest parts of getting older and having grandchildren.

There are so many more projects I want to get to in our home.  I keep telling myself to hurry, but why? What am I in such a hurry about.  I need to cherish this season in my life and welcome what comes each day. Greg is always telling me to slow my roll.  I can only promise to try.
