A Hot Minute

February 10, 2020

It’s been a hot minute sense I blogged. I’ll be the first to admit I’m overwhelmed with all this Blue Happy growth. The intense level on some days keep me like OMG I don’t know where to start with the To Do list. I’ve got custom orders piled on top of all those creative ideas of mine. At the same time I got news that brought back bad memories from the past. One of the stores BoHo Buffalo in Waco is closing. Just like before the building is being sold so the owner has to vacate. It’s all good because Jill the owner of Junky Monkey is taking on all my pieces that aren’t sold. I’ve been at Junky Monkey for a while and plan on Blue Happy continuing there. The only problem is I find it hard to leave that store once I deliver my furniture. She offers so much to look at and buy. I love her clothing boutique along with her home decor items. Don’t expect to get me out quick if I make it to the back yard to shop all the great vintage treasures. If your in Waco it is a great place to spend some time. She is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Rustic Warehouse in Rockwall is crazy busy all of the time. I’m there most days except if I’m on the road to Waco. If you visit always ask if I’m out back in my work space. One of the fun things about Rustic is the Wacky Wednesday auction. It’s always the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Follow Rustic Warehouse on Facebook to get to see the auction. All the rules are posted at the start of the auction feed so make sure you read them to understand how it all works. By far joining the Rustic team has been a real change in the face of Blue Happy. I’m blessed to have been excepted on to this team of artist. For sure there is never a dull day.

I love picking different pieces to create with. The hunt to find great home decor is something l look forward to each week. I want my space at any of my stores to be a place where you feel comfortable, as if you are at home. One of the biggest questions I get ask is where do you find the items you sell. The answer is anywhere and everywhere. I travel all over Texas and beyond looking for unique items that are or can be updated. On more than one occasion I have ask someone can I buy something they have I love.  Sometimes it’s okay and sometimes it’s are you weird or what.  For sure I’m weird and what. LOL!!! Anyway paint is a miracle worker when it comes to changing things. Giving your home a fresh look is as easy as painting walls, furniture and decor you already have. For those of you that aren’t so keen on painting for yourself thats where artist like myself come in. We are out there and we all have different styles one that is sure to match what you want.

I find so many times bringing out the beauty of these pieces takes elbow grease. Painting over things can be fun and make such a difference. Sanding and striping to get to the wood underneath can be a big payoff. Not all furniture is made of quality wood. Finding a solid real wood piece is golden but there was a change from quality to quantity years ago. At that turning point furniture went from solid to veneer on most things out there. Don’t get me started on the amount of press wood pieces that fall apart and don’t hold any value. This week I found 2 pieces that were at one point stunning. Years have gone on and that dark cherry stain along with that orange-ish oak stain is no longer wanted in the updated styling of today. So I have set out to change both pieces. I’m at the striping and staining stages and I hit pay dirt with beautiful wood underneath.

With anything in life those good treasures are worth working for. There are days and hours of sanding that I challenge that statement. After this week I’m reminded of just how beautiful a piece can be if you Blue Happy love it.
