What Once Was Is No More

June 5, 2017

So for years I’ve had these bar stools that seemed fine until one day Ethan took a tumble.  They are tall and skinny and very easy to tip over. Okay for the balance of an adult but not my grand babies.  I wanted them out of the house and Greg agreed.  I sat them in the garage and hadn’t really look for anything new.  I guess because most of the time it’s  just Greg and I here.  I was preparing for some new things to put in my booth at Doc Holliday’s and Greg said sell the bar stools.  I thought about it and said okay but I have to change them up to make them into something different.

I put my creative head to work and came up with the cutest idea.  I thought that I was only going to redo one of them but then Greg stepped in.  Ever so often the creative bug grabs his brain and he adds to one of my designs and without his input it might not have had the punch it needed.  I wanted the stool to have more than one purpose.  A multi-purpose piece if you will.  I took one stool a galvanized tub and some Valspar paint and the outcome is oh my goodness shabby chic cuteness.  I sprayed and sealed the inside of the galvanized tub. Greg attached the tub to the top of the stool.  Now this would have worked as a multi-functional piece , but then Greg put his twist on it.  He attached the slats of wood at the bottom.  This created extra storage space for many things.

It you look at this piece there are so many things to use it for.  I would use it at my front door with beautiful plants and change it out seasonal.  The patio is my next favorite place full of ice and cold drinks for my guest on a hot summer day.  Inside the home it could hold blankets in the family room or by the door to hold keys, backpacks and even shoes.  I’m sure you could think of many places in your home and many ways to help you organize things.

Now I said I had two of these stools so I decided to makeover it as well.  I carried the same stenciled dragon-fly to the top of the stool like I put on the front of the galvanized tub.  Greg put the same slats at the bottom to create a shelf.  This stool is now also multi-functional as a stool, plant stand or side table inside the home or outside.  It’s all how you look at what you have and how it can be renewed and reused.  These two stool were once just that stools but no more are they just stools.  By the way the slats that make the bottom shelf came from old shutters.

They are Blue Happiness now.  They are both in my booth at Doc Holliday’s Emporium.
