Are You Ready?

November 19, 2015

Wow! It’s one week to Thanksgiving so it’s time to stage your home for the big event. If you have 4 guests or 14 guests the best way to enjoy it is to start getting ready now.

Start with this weekend and do your heavy cleaning. I know cleaning is the hard part and no one wants to do it. Trust me if you do it this weekend you will be happy come next Wednesday. Make a list as to what needs to be cleaned. This is not the time to revamp a closet or room. Just clean what you need to clean and move on. Revamping should have been done weeks ago. Pick one day and get it all done, then mark it off your list of things to do.

If you haven’t already done it yet shopping needs to happen this weekend as well. That way you can beat the rush, get a good turkey and have peace of mind that it’s all there for your cooking day. When making your list of groceries make sure you think of your guests. I have vegetarians, gluten free and low sugar guests to consider. Also make things that are favorites for your guests because it shows how you love them and thought of them.

Find a place where you can stage the dishes you will need. Get out those pans, platters and glasses you will need to dress your dishes and table. Have it all out and ready to stage. No looking for that one thing you can’t find it’s ready and on hand to grab. No stress cooking is the way to go!

When dressing your table make sure to use dishes that you love. A beautiful table sets the mood for the family time around the table. I like to use a mix of blue and white dishes. I also found some stunning blue glasses at an estate sale for only a $1 a piece. Keep your center piece simple like using photos of family, low-rise flower arrangements or maybe a black chalk paper so everyone can write their blessings on it. Whatever you do just make it so it works for your family.

No stress Thanksgiving starts with preparing this weekend. If you are all ready for that day by Wednesday you will be a better host. For me, prep work makes everything Blue Happy and stress free. Go prep your Blue Happy Thanksgiving.
