It’s Project Time!

November 20, 2015

This is a great Christmas project for your kids, grand kids or just for the kid that lives in your heart during the holiday season. Many years ago I did this project with my son’s class. I still have this and it hangs on my tree every year.

One of my favorite holiday characters is Frosty the Snowman. I bought all of the supplies needed at Hobby Lobby and at a very reasonable price. You will need pipe cleaners, bells, a doll hat ( I chose a cowboy hat), White Christmas balls, acrylic paint (black, orange, white, green & red) & green or red ribbon.

The first thing you will do is punch a hole in the top of the hat. Then fold your pipe cleaner in half and hook it through the top of the Christmas ball. Now you need to run the pipe cleaner through the hat from the bottom up. Once you have done that you need to place a bell on each of the pipe cleaners that you pulled through the hat. Now twist the pipe cleaners so the bells don’t come off. With what is left make a circle and twist the two ends together. This makes the perfect hook for the branch of the Christmas tree.

Now lets give him personality. Start with a wreath on the front of the hat. Using small taps with the end of the brush in a small circle to form the wreath. Flip your brush over so that you can use the end to dip in red paint to make the berries on the wreath. The face is up to you I did the traditional black coal mouth and eyes, with a carrot nose. You can do what ever you feel will give it the right personality. I loved the cowboy hat for our Texas family. On the back of the hat I painted 2015 I love dated ornaments.

This project is a great Thanksgiving project for your family of all ages. It’s a great gift for them to take home and remember their family time together. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have over the years. I hope your holidays are truly Blue Happy!
