Front Door Blues

April 5, 2016

Have you ever had something in your head that seemed well planned but in reality it’s not. I spent the better part of the last few weeks planning my front door look. I had planned this beautiful creme white color then maybe wash a dark gel color over it to give it an aged look. In my reality it was beautiful but when I start to work on this project well lets just say it didn’t go as planned.

I announced to Greg that I was going to make the front door priority and wanted to go to Lowes to get the color. When we got there I pulled several creme whites and laid them all out on the counter. Greg said I thought you came to get color for the door. I responded I did and I’m doing it in creme white. His response was white isn’t a color. So we both went over to the colors. He pick a few and I picked a few. One of mine was a color called Corn Flower Blue and several other blues. He didn’t like any of them so I picked the Corn Flower Blue. He said that’s fine as long as it’s not that blue you have used in the house before, I don’t care for that. I bought my paint and home to paint the door. I wouldn’t let him look at it before it was finished but when it was I called him out. He loved the door and he thought the blue was nice. I never once told him it was the same color as the island in the kitchen, his stereo in his poker room and the wall in the guest room. Let’s not tell him I pulled one over on him after all.

Before I put a protective coat on the door I decided to get out the sander. I really like the worn and aged look because it makes me think it has been here a long time. I sanded lightly because Greg was afraid it would look more shabby than chic. He has been hanging around me way to long for that thought to even be in his head. To me aged things in my home are a sign of stability and comfort.

The finishing touch was a wreath for the door. I love burlap anything, so I went directly to everything burlap at Hobby Lobby. I could have bought it all and to tell the truth I have a sack of things to return because I wanted it all. I went for simple instead of a cluster of everything burlap. I finished the wreath off with the black letter M and  beautiful beads. This wreath will make me smile every time I open the front door to welcome a guest.

Your front door is how you welcome all your family and friends to your home. Sprucing up your front door or porch is as easy as a good cleaning and a can of paint or stain. Toss in a new door mat and it’s like putting a smile on your homes face. I love to welcome friends and family and making sure my door does just that is important to me. I hope you enjoyed my door make over. The rest of the curb appeal will be in the next few days. Have a Blue Happy Tuesday!
