Shocking Difference

May 10, 2016

We get into a groves sometimes and it can blind us to what is right in front of us. I know I do that with my home. I sometimes think that things can’t be moved or used in a different way  because  it interrupts my grove. I need to remember that groves are made to be rerouted.

A friend of mine was moving to a brand new home. She took this opportunity to update and give her new home a fresh new look. She did a great job and it is beautiful. She called me and said I have a few things that I wanted to know if you wanted them. Well Duh Susan if its furniture yes I want it. She gave me some great pieces some of them were real wood and one little table wasn’t. When she handed it to me she said this is just a cheap table not real wood I don’t know if you can do anything with it. Again just because it is not real wood doesn’t mean it can’t be up cycled, redone and reused. As long as you can paint it then you have a winner.

The little table had this weird stick in the center of it on the base of the table. I think it was decorative but who knows it was pointless if you ask me. The stain was dark cherry with a great marble top. The first thing I did was removed that weird little decorative stick and toss it a side. I wiped it all down while I thought of the perfect color.

When I picked a color I wanted it to be a happy feeling. Not a color that would be boring or plain. I choose this great old teal color. When I started putting it on I got so excited. This old cheap table was starting to have a bit of a personality. I applied 2 coats of paint and it needed that to cover over the dark stain. Once it was dry out came the sander for the edges and a few other spots to give it a look of used and worn. As for the weird stick in the center well I’m not putting it back. I wanted to add organization to this little table. I went to Hobby Lobby and looked around for something I could attach to the shelf at the base of the table. I know that a square shape wouldn’t work so, when I saw this round basket I grabbed it up. Some would say that the marble and the basket don’t work together but I say “why not”. To me it takes the marble from  old style to up beat and shabby chic.  Lol sometimes I crack myself up with my colorful words and style.

This table has new life and yes it was cheap but it now has a new life with a bit of style. It can be used in so many ways by a door for keys and personal items. Maybe next to a chair to hold remotes or what about next to your favorite reading spot for your books. Whatever it is used for it will not be boring, weird or cheap looking.

So many times I hear I can’t afford to redo my home. Take what you have and some paint to make it all new again. Look around your home and see what you can redo with paint. Have a Blue Happy Tuesday!
