Easy Art for Your Home Step 1

June 2, 2016

I know you all have seen those painted canvas in the home stores.  You think to yourself oh I want that for my family room or bathroom.  What ever the room you admire the art pick it up and return it to the shelf because the price nearly knocked you down.  Yes art already done and ready for the walls can be quiet expensive.  The great thing about doing your own art is you pick the colors and the subject.

When starting to do your own art start with something that is no fail.  That way you don’t get discouraged and will want to do more art for your home.  Today I’m gonna teach you how to start a painting that you can hang in most any room of your home.  I’ll share with you a simple steps to do the back ground and fit the colors into your home.  You will need a canvas of medium size.  Not smaller than a 16×20.  I like large pieces of art work in my home so mine is 24×24.  Make sure you select a gallery wrapped edge so that you don’t have to frame it.  This will cut down on cost.  Look around your home and pick at least 2 colors that make you happy.  You will need a tube of those color and a tube of white.  You will also need a larger brush at least 1 inch wide.  Make sure if you are planning to do more art for your home that you buy good brushes and good paint.  Please don’t buy Artist Loft brand it is dull and thin and will make your art come out cheap! I personally use Master’s Touch ACRYLIC PAINT from Hobby Lobby.

Okay let’s get started.  Todays blog will only be about the back ground.  Friday’s blog will be about the finish work to make it into art you will love.   Take a paper plate and give yourself  amply amount of paint from each tube.  I like to start  in the upper left corner.  Using a x-ing motion with the brush cover a good amount of the corner.  Then WITHOUT cleaning your brush grab another color and using the same x-ing motion start to blend it into the white. You don’t want to completely blend the white away.  Once you need paint grab the next color. It’s up to you if you want it to have area’s that are heavier with one color.  There is no right or wrong way to do this as long as you can see all 3 of the colors when you are finished.  It’s easy to over blend and lose your colors. Repeat these steps and x-ing motion until you have covered the entire canvas.  Don’t forget your edges they need to be covered as well.

The great thing about acrylic paint is that if you don’t like it after it dries you can paint right over it until it’s what you want. This is the first step all done.  Now that wasn’t so bad right! Once you are happy let it dry in a safe place.  Tomorrow we will explore how to finish it off with easy to paint flowers.  I hope you come back and read Friday’s blog and finish off your art work.  Have a great Blue Happy Thursday!
