Summer Art Project Even Mom will wanna do!

June 27, 2016

This is by far is one of my favorite art projects for the entire family. It’s simple and only takes a few supplies to make a  piece of art work you will want to hang in your home.

SUPPLIES:

  • green tulip paint
  • black tulip paint
  • sharpies of all colors
  • 1 canvas for each person doing the project
  • rubbing alcohol
  • Q-tips several
  • cup for alcohol

Okay now that you have all your supplies let’s get started with this beautiful piece of art work.

STEP 1:  This step has to be done and this it must dry completely before you can move on to step 2

Lay your canvas out and put news paper or some type of paper so the  area  has coverage. You are putting on the green tulip paint for the grass and stems of the flowers.  This is done very quick and rapid with a back and forth motion.  There really is no right or wrong way as long as you cover the entire bottom front of the canvas.  If more than one person is doing this project you can line all the canvas’ up at once and do them all together.  When you are done with the art project you can hang them up in the order they were laying when you did the first step.  This will make one really nice large piece of art work to hang on the wall.  Before you can finish step 1 you will need to put the black dots in groups of 3.  This can be at random and as many of them as you want.  Just remember to place them far apart because these will serve as some of the flower centers.

THIS STEP MUST DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU CAN MOVE ON TO STEP 2!!!!!

STEP 2:

Now you need to pull out the sharpies so we can add the color to the canvas.  Select 2 colors of sharpies for each flower.  In a back and forth motion scribble in a circle the center of your flower.  The flowers can be done around the 3 black dots and some done with out them.  You should use a lighter color like yellow or pink for the centers and a darker color like orange, blue or purple for the outside edge.  You can put as many flowers as you want just make sure you put some high on the canvas and some lower down in the grass. Use lots of colors so that your art is bright and cheerful.

LEARN FOR MY MISTAKES: I used a very light pink and a light green on one of my flowers and I had to go back and add a darker color after step 3 because you couldn’t see them. So learn from my mistake and DON’T USE THE LIGHTEST OF SHARPIE COLORS. This does not include yellow it has good pigment and it does very well with this project.

STEP 3:

Now the really fun step using the rubbing alcohol.  You will need a small cup to pour your alcohol in.   Using the Q-tip you dip it in the alcohol and then lightly rub the sharpie area until it has  a look of watercolor.  You might still be able to see the marker lines on a few of the colors like read or blue.  The more you rub the more they disappear.  Make sure you use the Q-tip in a back and forth motion not circles.  If you do circles then the colors will blend together and you want to be able to see both colors.  So make sure when doing this step you go slow and try to make sure that both colors can be seen when you are done mixing.

So there you have it a great piece of artwork to hang in your home.  I think this is such a fun project and getting the entire family involved makes for a great family time.  When you do this project post your pictures on Facebook and tag me so I can see.  If you have any question just let me know.  I hope that the best day of the week TODAY is a great Monday for you and it is so Blue Happy. Tomorrows blog will be the 3rd art project so come on back and learn how to make a picture holder for the wall.
