Different and Special

November 7, 2016

I’m still working on Furniture for my daughters new home. Yep pretty sure I’m gonna miss the deadline of having it all done. I’ve been very careful not to rush and do a sloppy job so a bit more time is okay. This table set has taken the most time to complete. In last weeks blog I showed you how we took the chairs and made side benches. She wanted captains chairs to be very different from the benches so I went looking for something different and special.

While out shopping one day I came across 2 chairs that fit the bill. I couldn’t get ahold of my daughter so I bought them hoping she would love them. Thank goodness she did, so I started the makeover. The 2 chairs were painted different but that wasn’t a problem. One was in off white chalk paint and the other painted a very dark brown. Both seats were covered in an off white and brown zebra. Not my daughters taste at all. I used the Valspar antique white and gave them 2 really good coats. Thankful for the rain but it made drying time long and time-consuming. Once dry I starting the fun part for me and that is the age sanding. I already knew I loved them and how they are turning out. Once sanded I gave both chairs a good coat of clear finish. I sat them aside to dry and started the seat covers.

It was exciting to go and pick fabric for the chair seats. We went to Hobby Lobby and spent some time trying to pic something that would go with everything in the room. We picked one, had it cut, took it home and Clint said “Really”. So we moved that fabric to the vanity seat in her bedroom and went back for this fabric and Clint said ok! Success everybody is happy. I laid out the fabric and cut about 3 inches out from the seat. I also cut 2 batting foam pieces to give the seats more padding. I started with the batting and stapled it all around the edges. It’s always good to start on one side and then to the opposite side. This will help it all stay tight and straight. I followed the same process with both batting pieces and with the fabric.

Now the chairs are dry and ready for the seats to be attached. Greg did that for me so I could go and work on the table. Oh my goodness this table set is gonna be a stunner and on the blog Wednesday. I’m in love with this set she better be glad I like my set or this might have to stay here. I told Heather that, she smiled and said I don’t think so Mom.

I’m enjoying redoing all these piece for their home. They were so nice and thanked me for it the other night. I don’t take compliments well and they made fun of me. I do appreciate that they thanked me but I do it because I love my kids and love doing things for them. Doing for others is so rewarding. I can’t wait to get their house all finished and put together it’s gonna be a very Blue Happy House. It’s Monday the best day of the week. I hope your week is blessed and Blue Happy!!!
