And Done!!!!

December 16, 2016

My sweet daughter has waited for her dresser to be finished. I started it way before my surgery but didn’t get it done. It has set in my workshop for weeks but today I delivered it to her. She was happy to get all those boxes out of her new bedroom. The story behind this dress is kinda sweet but regretful I’m sure to someone who gave it up. It belonged to one of my friends who no longer wanted it and she passed it to her sister-in-law.  She is also my friend and it sat in her entryway to her home for years.  They built and moved into a new home and she no longer wanted it. So to my house it came and now look at it WOW!

My daughter had bought a bed and I wanted to make sure it matched her new bed so I had to mix a few stains to come up with one.  I love the coffee look to the stain and if you know my daughter anything coffee is good. To go with her farmhouse look I painted the base of the dresser and night stand in the Valspar Antique White.  I distressed the painted areas and finished it off with 3 clear coats.  At first I was going to change out the hardware but the original hardware seem to fit her style.  Back on it went and it looks perfect.  I told Heather I was bringing over the dresser but when I showed up with the night stand as well she was excited.  I was so pleased that the stain matched and looks really nice with the bed. Sorry I guess I didn’t take a before of the night stand.

I can’t say it enough that just because you are done with something doesn’t mean it has no use any more.  I love that my friends passed these two piece of furniture around until it landed with me.  I have given them an up dated farmhouse look and that fits perfect into my daughters new home.  The great thing about this shabby chic look is with kids new bumps and dents fit right in and no one will know.  I do a lot of the two-tone so that the furniture doesn’t look all of its character.  Wood grain can be like art and I love to let that show through.  Letting the wood show through allows it to be more than just furniture it becomes art in the room.

Next weeks projects will be more furniture for my daughter’s house.  I’m just about finished with it all and then I’ll start showing you the decorated rooms one by one.  I hope that you had a great week and your weekend is full of plans to make some memories.  Have a Blue Happy weekend!
