I Should Have Deleted This Blog

January 11, 2017

I should have deleted this blog and not let anyone know about this piece I just finished. It is so beautiful and looks amazing at the end of my bed. When Heather ask me for a bench for her bedroom I dug this bench out of my storage shed. It was so ugly and looked so 80’s/90’s. I mean rally light greenish velvet with a button back. Not the style she is going for in her home.

I had a plan to make it amazing and match her bedroom furniture. I was painting it the Antique White and going to use wood to make a new seat. Then Heather said she wanted a punch of color so could I paint it a green. So I thought okay your house your bedroom so green it is. Then it happened I went to Lowe’s and this beautiful Gray paint called my name. I grabbed up 3 can’s of Valspar Project Paint and off I went home.

I started by removing the back and seat cushion. I lightly sanded the wood body and gave it a couple of coats of paint. While it dried I started looking at what wood to make a seat from. Nothing really spoke to me so I took a break and went inside to watch a bit of HGTV. Then it hit me don’t make a new seat just fabric cover the old one. I called Heather and she said she loved that idea. I went to Hobby Lobby and face timed her so that she could pick the fabric. We both loved this damask off white.

When I got home the paint was dry so I sanded more than the edges to give it an old and worn look all over. I sprayed Valspar clear coat in matte finish over the entire piece. While that dried I recovered the seat with the new fabric. It all turned out amazing.

Around 8:30 I loaded it into my truck and drove it over to Heather and Clint’s. I put it on the porch and drove off. I texted her to look on her front porch. I was watching down the street and I could tell she loved it. Karen was on the phone with me the whole time. Karen is always on the phone with me when I’m in my car. It’s how we roll and she keeps me out of trouble.

This bench was a complete redo and it now has a restored life. It was meant for her bedroom but when they brought it in the house it seem to fit right into the entryway like it was meant to be there. The bench I’m making her from my grandmother’s bed will now go into the bedroom. It’s a special piece because my daddy was born in that bed. I hope you enjoyed this project I loved doing it. I love when you take something crappy and give it a restored life with many years of life to go. The total cost for this bench start to finish was about $55. Now that is a Blue Happy savings. Have a great Hump day, enjoy your family and savory every minute of life.
