Jute Bring It Back!

March 30, 2017

So far I haven’t found anything that I can’t redo, reuse or recycle. If you think long enough and hard enough you will find away to make it work. Feel free to email me pictures of items you have and want to redo but have no clue where to start. I can toss out a few ideas and maybe one or two will work for you. As I was blogging this my dear friend Stephanie sent me a picture of an item that she was considering for a desk.  Funny how that all happened at the same time.  I love to help out my friends find ways to organize and decorate on a budget.

Our last trip to Waco Greg found this great wire book/magazine rack at an estate sale in West Texas. It was this awful hunter green color. I’m sure it was someones past redo in the early 90’s when that color was so in. Today that color is not in at all so it’s time for a redo. I love all things burlap and jute. I wanted to update this wire rack with some black metal spray paint and jute. I wiped it all down and gave it 2 coats of black spray paint. I did my always sanding and clear coating to protect the paint.  After it was dry the jute magic began. I added it to the top of the handle to add a bit of what is popular in decorating today.  Burlap and jute for me go hand in hand. I love this stuff! This was one of the easiest makeovers I’ve done.

This was and still is a magazine tote but when I look at it I see so many more things to use it for.  First like I said a magazine tote or could even be used beside a child’s bed to hold those special books they want you to read every night over and over and over…….

Another great use is in the bathroom or kitchen to hold hand towels.  Towels easy to get to in these rooms is a must and helps your guest find a towel without opening all your drawers.

What about all those rolls and long boxes of kitchen items like aluminum, parchment paper, pan lines and more.  This tote can easily sit in your pantry to hold them all.  When you are cooking and need to use them you grab your tote and you have them all handy to use.

Sometimes we get in our head what things are to be used for because that is what we are told.  We have to get rid of those ideas and reinvent what we have.  There are many stores that sell plastic containers to organize all the items I showed in the pictures but they aren’t decorative.  Find old things or things you already have to redo, reuse and recycle into what you need.  You will save money and that my friends is such a Blue Happy thing.

On Friday this tote will be in my booth at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Texas. I’ll have it there by noon.
