Garage Sale Find Turns Stunning

August 18, 2017

Sometimes I get a piece that seems simple it’s easy to slap some paint on it and call it done. I can’t do things that way. Simply painting, distressing a piece and calling it art is the easy way out. I put lots of thought into my pieces and I consider them all a blank canvas. When finished these are my masterpieces. I put a piece of my heart into each and every one of them.  Just a few Fridays ago one of my neighbors had a garage sale.  She is very smart she price her things to sale to clear out her garage.  I found the sweet little corner table for just $5.

It sat in my studio because I wasn’t clear on my design.  Once I got it clear in my head I explained it all to Greg and how I wanted it to look.  We started with painting the piece navy blue and sitting it aside.  I had this great iron piece that was made for hanging bags or jackets on.  I pulled that out and decided it was the cherry on top of this project.  We added 2 back panels for support and then ran 2 cedar fence boards up the back for the iron corner hooks to be mounted to.  I didn’t just want it mounted to the cedar boards that seemed boring.  I went digging in my stash of wood, trim and we’ll save this for a later project pile.  I came up with a piece of trim that was once on top of a side table I redid for my daughter’s house.  Greg cut it in half and we mounted it to the cedar board for the corner piece to be mounted on.  Funny thing is I had already painted it navy to make a key rack for a back door piece I never got to that project.  Lucky for me a little less work to be done.  After all the parts were painted, stained and attached we ended up with this great hall tree that will fit in any space.  The hooks organize you bags and jackets with the drawers holding those things you need to keep by the door.

It’s hard sometimes to look at things that someone else no longer needs as a treasure.  Think of things you need in your home to make your family more organized. It might be easier when shopping garage sales, thrift sales and estate sales.  You can stand in front of somethings and imagine if you add this or that, take away this or that then maybe you can visualize what treasure it can be to you repurposed.  That is how I do it with almost every piece I redo.  I imagine how I can recycle it, reuse it or solve a problem with it.  I love the outcome of this project and love that it was a simple table that now has purpose.  It’s vintage, shabby chic and way Blue Happy.  Anytime you put a tall piece in your home that can be tipped over it’s best to attach it to the wall.  I have attached a piece to the back that can be safely attached to the wall.  This piece is Blue and that is what I wish for your weekend, Blue Happy memories and  blessings.

This item will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Tx on 8/19.
