Perfectly Imperfect

December 29, 2017

On my last trip to Waco on the way back home Greg took a detour though down town Hillsboro. It’s a cute little town with a great down town square. We didn’t have time to stop to long because we had to be back to Dallas to pick up Cooper and Cherry at the vets. We agreed that the next time we came this way we would make the time to stop and shop these cute little stores. As we left town Greg noticed a thrift store. He said it’s small do you wanna take a quick look? I would never say no to a thrift store so in we went.

It was a true thrift store and the prices reflect that as well. As I entered the store the shelves were piled high with all kinds of treasures. You had to dig to see it all and digging is what I did. I knew I was limited on time so I let my eye catch things I though had potential. I found an arm load within just a few minutes in the door and I hadn’t even broke $20’s yet. Greg split off from me and he called me to the back of the store. He had found a large mirror for only $4.95 WOW! I can’t wait to have the time to work on it and bring it back to have restored life.

One of the treasures I found at the front of the store was a beautiful metal tray. It was tole painted with bright colors and flowers. My first thought was I’ll sand off the tole painting and repaint it. Not so fast missy! For the past 2 weeks the tray has laid on a table in my studio. Every time I walked into the studio I fell more and more in love with it. My final decision is that it needs to be left perfectly Imperfect. It has minor scratches on a few of the edges. There is a nick or two in the painted design but the beauty of it is perfect. It has value in a tray for your table or ottoman.  It could be a great piece for your patio during the summer.  It could also be hung on the wall as art. This tray is sturdy, shabby chic and vintage.

Sometimes our beauty comes from our imperfections. I have a friend that has a scar on her face from a car wreck years ago. She often will tell people why here face looks like that. I think she is very beautiful and her scar makes her different. To me she has this sweet little slanted smile. Another friend of mine is quiet shy and most of the time withdrawals when we are in a large group. I notice her the most because she is like a delicate flower in a room of busy bee’s. We all have imperfections that most of the time make us special. In a world of fake and perfection being different seems to be what you don’t wanna be. I for one love the difference of all people. I love that we are becoming more accepting of those that look and act different. What a boring world we would live in if we were all perfect. I say celebrate your differences, embrace what makes you dance outside the box and most of all love those that are different from you. Have a great Blue Happy New Years weekend and may God bless you.

The tray will be in my booth at Doc Holliday’s 113 S Birmingham Wylie TX on Saturday 12/30.
