Creative Makeover

May 3, 2018

Sometimes it’s hard for me to walk in the house. Passing the shelves in my garage that store items I use to create projects grabs me sometimes. Not physically but it grabs my creative brain and a project is born. This happened this week as I came home from school. I’ve had these large round cut tree disk cut from a branch for months now. Nothing came to mind to use them. So there they were this week calling out my name.

I pulled out 2 other items from my studio I needed to get this project on its way. I needed a short sofa/table leg and an adapter that will attach it to the bottom of the disk. I painted out the short leg in Crisp Collar from Chalk Country.  Once it was dry I sanded it back a bit to make it match the rough look of the bark on the disk.  I flip the disk over and attached the adapter for the short leg.  I had to kinda just guess on the center because it wasn’t perfectly round.  Once attach I screwed the leg into the adapter and flipped it over.  The only thing left to do was to use Defender on the top to make it safe for food and seal the wood so food didn’t stain it.

Cake plates are so popular these days.  I love to use them all year round when we have guest in our home.  I always put 3 to 5 in the center of my table so that I can lift the food up. I don’t just use them for desserts I also use them as hot plates to serve dinner.  I like to think it’s using your food as a center piece.  It is a cheap way to decorate without having to buy anything because your food serves both.

You can make a cake server with almost anything from old plates to wood cutting boards.  My next cake plate I’m gonna try is to use an old book.  I’ve never seen this done so it’s gonna be tricky to find away the book isn’t affected by food.  Gonna have to think on that a while.  By the way sorry no blogs the past couple of days I was in need of much rest after the school art show.  So I took 2 days of down time. I’m feeling much better and the Doc has given me promising to carry on.   Look for a very special blog on Monday.  I’m in the Silo District run in Waco on Sunday.  I’ll blog about the run, my store in Waco and mine and Greg’s all around weekend.
