Recreate Outside The Box

May 4, 2018

Do you ever look at things you have in your house and think I’m so tired of all this stuff. I’ve done that on more than one occasion. I’ve also had many conversations with friends that say I want to just take it all out of my house and start over. Oh my gosh that would cost so much and there is something you can do to change things. You can do this without spending a ton of money. You just have to recreate what you have out of the box.

A few weeks back I got lucky in an auction and bought this amazing piece of art work for only $5. I bought it just to prove a point that last years trends can be this years OMG in your home. I sat it in my kitchen for a few days, okay a week so I could look at it often. I wanted to think it through so I could give it a redo that would fit what is going on in homes today. Or at least those of us that love shabby chic and farmhouse.

First I stenciled on top of the canvas. I had to let that dry before I could move one. I found the cutest scrolled wood frame at Hobby Lobby in the wood work section. On clearance for only .75 it was the perfect piece. I painted it out in Crisp Collar from Chalk Country and then sanded it back. After the stencils were dry I started looking for the perfect place to put it on top of the canvas. I used strong wood glue to attach it. That glue takes longer to dry but its seals it firm to the piece.

This art was okay and could have been used as is but why not customize your home decor. Just because you’ve had it a long time doesn’t make it over and done. Start with one room pull a few pieces down and think about how to change it. It may only need a fresh color with paint. You might want to add embellishments or maybe reframe it with a colorful mat. The options are so many and can make a huge difference in your home. All while saving you tons of money.

One other option to saving money and adding new decor to your home is a party. Not just any party a switch it up party. You invite at least 10 people or more. They bring at least 2 items or more of decor they no longer want. Everyone switches up items and goes home with different things to have in their home. It cost you nothing and you got to have a girls night in to redecorate your home. Everyone is a Blue Happy winner!!
