The Smallest Things Make A Difference

April 8, 2019

Today was high-five your teacher at school. I’ll be honest not my favorite day because of my issues with germs. My art kids know me well and know that an elbow bump is so much better for me. I love that our school takes the time to honor our hardworking teachers and celebrate us. We were served breakfast all day and I’ve heard lunch in on Wednesday followed by snack day on Friday. It really is the smallest things that can make such a big difference.

Around my house those small things that make a difference are organized storage. I love to contain things and make it easy to find things. I’ll say it once again “I HATE TO LOOK FOR THINGS”. Everything in my bathroom has a place and a place for everything. From under the counter to the counter top it’s all contained in some kind of way. So many of my friends complain about how much it cost to buy those containers and cute boxes at your local crafting stores. Well I have a great solution to get storage and make it custom to your taste and home. Thrift stores is the way to go these days for storage. Make a plan of stores to shop. Take a day and go through your home and write down storage you need to help you organize. Then off you go to find those low-cost but much-needed storage.

I love wood totes, drawers and boxes. I find them at local thrift stores and give them the Blue Happy treatment.

Not only do I paint them I add things to give them personality and a bit of whimsy.

I love boxes that can hang on the wall. Add some cute little hooks and you have that family morning organizer to get out the door quick. My daughter has one of these and keeps things there that are needed for school.

In the 60″s and 70:s they used metal file boxes of all kinds in offices. I love these because they are indestructible. I paint them with spray paint in a pop of color to add to any room. Great for the office but also the family room for remotes. Don’t forget all those hair accessories in the bathroom. The list goes on and on for this type of storage.

There are all kinds of storage boxes out there in wood or metal. You just have to go out and get it. It’s pretty easy to spray paint or chalk paint in just an afternoon. Make sure you sand back to give it that shabby chic look or not if you prefer a cleaner look. What do you need to organize in your home? I’ll bet it’s sitting in a thrift store for a next to nothing price.
