Believing and Faith

August 12, 2019

When both my grandmothers passed away I really didn’t inherit anything. I was given a few things from around their home’s. I was fine with that because I’m not one for material things. Both lived very simple lives and never really had more than they needed so there wasn’t loads of money to pass around. I loved them both so very much. They gave me wise advice that I’ve carried for years. When I struggled in life they both told me to lean on my faith even in those times I couldn’t understand. That by far has been the best advice I’ve been given. My faith has walked me straight into some of the hardest moments. Faith has also lead me from those hard time right into some of my biggest blessings. They were both right, hold fast to my faith because it really is the one thing that stays with you.

My sweet friend Stephanie referred a lady to me that inherited her grandmother’s bedroom furniture. I get calls like this all the time. Sometimes the furniture is in great shape other times the repair is costly. This sweet lady was blessed with furniture made from Thomasville. It was in perfect shape with only a little wear and tear on the top. She wanted to keep some of the same character that her grandmother loved. So she asked me to paint the body and leave the tops the way they were.

I did just that but after I painted, sanded and clear coated the body of the furniture the tops just seemed unfinished. So I did a perk up, if you will. I cleaned the tops really well and used a small amount of stain to cover the scratches. The edges had stain worn away and the touch up covered all of that. I then used Defender to give the tops a fresh look. I only had to add one coat and they were perfect.

Upon arriving at my home to pick up her furniture it was clear she was happy with the restored life given to her grandmother’s pieces. Her face told me it was a job well done. Her parents came with her to pick it up and they were just as pleased. I can’t think of any other fulfilling compliment than the smile on their faces.

Doing what I do is truly a passion. One that continues to grow in my heart. Everyday is filled with new creative ideas that overflow in my sketch book. I don’t want to let any of these ideas be forgotten so I make sure to put pen to paper. There was a time in my life that I thought that all the dreams I wanted to chase were long over because of my age. I’ve proven to myself that there is no dream, passion or desire that can’t be followed if you believe that your faith will see you through.
