Beautiful Buffet

February 22, 2016

When the weather is warm and the pool is just right for floating you will find us on the patio. When  winter slips in and the pool is freezing cold you will find us on the patio. We have designed a life on our patio for year round comfort. We have fans for summer and heaters for winter. There is no season that will run us into the house.

We spent Saturday evening moving around the furniture to make it more functional for the up coming spring and summer season. Adding more seating and a place to serve snacks and dessert was an important part of the evening. Greg is pretty good about letting me have my way but tonight he had opinions. After moving things around for about an hour we came to an agreement as to what should go where. Finally it all made sense and has a great flow.

The buffet I purchased last weekend at an estate sale will be the new piece that snacks and desserts will  be served on. I was so excited to start this piece because it will be the finishing touch to what is our out-door living room. When I bought this little buffet it was less than perfect with more of a shabby look than chic.

This piece is a great example as to how creativity and art is in a continuous state of change until the artist feels it’s just right. My first plan was to paint it out navy blue and use a piece of tin I bought from the junk yard but then that little voice in my art head took over. I changed the color to gray and decided to change the  tiles in the back to give it an old but updated look. I’m gonna use the original hardware that was on it to keep its character.

After two coats of this beautiful gray color and letting it dry it was time for the sanding. I will always love the worn look so off with the edges and corners. I applied 5 layers of clear coat protection because although on the covered patio its outside. This will protect it from the moisture in the area and any water spills. Now time to add the  tile to the back. I didn’t want to damage the old tile on the back panel so I carefully took off the old tiles and put in new ones that matched the piece. I love the  tile it will be easy to wipe down and give this little buffet a fun look that is now shabby and chic. As always I had to find a way to add more storage to this little buffet so I had Greg add the shelf to the bottom. Using  scrap wood from our recycle pile once again those pallets came in handy so I have more space to organize.

Every family needs a hangout spot. Ours in on the patio and this is where we have and will make so many memories. What is the hot spot for your family to hang out in and make memories? Do you live in a new home or apartment? Has that spot become drab and unappealing? Do you need to decorate to give it life and make it a home? Change it up, make it fresh and give it life. This new piece will add so much to my patio. As soon as the weather warms up  and stays warm I will be adding so much more to give it even more life. I hope that your Monday is amazing and Blue Happy. Remember it’s the best day of the week!!
