Double Gift Giving

October 20, 2015

I love boxes, containers and most anything that I can store things in. My husband often tells people I have a mini container store in our attic. That might have some truth to it. I never pass up most any type of container at a sale.

I have started the process of trying to organize all my treasures I found from sales and trash trolling. I realized I have A LOT of little wood boxes. So I put my creative brain to work on what to do with all these little boxes.

When I give a housewarming gift, birthday gift or holiday gift I need a gift bag or just stick it in a boring card. They are so expensive and most of the time they are plain or way too over the top. So I decided I wanted to create a gift box. A decorative box that you can put a gift card or a small gift in. That way you are giving two gifts in one.

All the boxes I have are mostly different sizes and shapes. For today’s project I picked one of the smaller boxes and added one coat of green paint with an overlay of brown wax. As always I sanded off the edges for that worn look and finished it off with one coat of clear finish. Now for the fun stuff I added the cute little wood piece and the old knob but it still needed something. I found in my stash of goodies this little metal word “friends”. It really says it all when you add that special gift card and hand it to a friend. No gift bag required.

There are so many ways to do up a gift for gift giving. I will be sharing with you on Friday all kinds of ways to wrap up a gift card and make it out of the ordinary. Gift cards can seem impersonal but giving it a special wrap up makes it more special.

I love making my own gift wrap and not the normal wrapping paper, bags and boxes. I want my gift wrap to make a statement. I want my gift wrap to add to the gift and add to that person’s special day. It makes me Blue Happy when I give a gift that the wrapping makes that person just as happy as the gift its self.

These little boxes are everywhere at garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores and maybe already in your home. Go find these things you can redo for wrapping gifts and Go be Blue Happy!
