Quirky Christmas Decorations

December 23, 2015

Some of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is to decorate in different kind of ways. I love ornaments at Christmas. I have blogged before about my tree of memories and all the ornaments that follow my family’s life for the past 30 years. Some are so precious to me I wanted to share a few of them with you.

This little angel is the oldest and most precious to me. When Greg and I got married we truly lived on love cause there wasn’t any extra money. On our first Christmas together we truly had a Charlie Brown tree. It was a stick with green tinsel wrapped around it. There were about 13 branches that you had to stick into holes all along the middle stick. Greg’s mom sent us a box of glass balls in all colors. I wanted to buy a tree topper but Greg said we could only if it was $1. I found one at Kmart and I was so excited. I think it was more an ornament instead of a tree topper. So this little ornament is now 30 years old. I still love her today even more.

The little white church that hangs on my tree has been there for 13 years. When my son was 10 he excepted Christ and was baptised at Lucas Baptist church. That year he pick this little white church to represent that part of his life. I love getting it out and remembering that special day.

Both my kids have many ornaments and special moments in their lives but my daughters last ornament on the tree was the just married ornament. I was so proud of her and her new life with my son-in-law. Their wedding was very special and was surrounded by our closet friends and family. Every year as I hang it on the tree I remember that day and how beautiful she was. I’m so very proud of the life they have made.

If you visit my home during Christmas you will notice there are Christmas cards on my tree.  I love to get cards during the holiday.  I think that if a person takes the time to send you a card it just like giving you a gift.  I proudly put them into the branches of my tree so I can enjoy them along with my ornaments.  I’ve done this for years and will continue this tradition as long as I have a tree.  After Christmas I have a box that I file away the cards for safe keeping.

One of my favorite nights is Christmas Eve when most of our friends and family come over. As they arrive I want them to be greeted with the holiday spirit. My front porch is decorated very festive and full of the holiday spirit. I try to add something different every year and this year is the tall snowman holding the Happy Holiday sign. There is a funny story behind this guy. I bought him at Walmart one day on my lunch break. I didn’t want him to get dirty in the back of my car so I buckled him into the passenger seat next to me. I had so many people honk and wave while screaming out their window “we love Frosty”. I almost left him in my car until Christmas just because it made people smile.

I love that some people do those very decorative tree’s but for me it’s all about the things with meaning. Everyone needs to make their holiday with what makes them happy. I decorate a bit quirky but I love my home and it makes me, my family and friends smile. That is what makes the holiday Blue Happy. May you have a Blue Happy Holiday to you and yours.
