Trash Pile Chairs Reveal

February 29, 2016

Remember the 2 white metal chairs from the trash pile at the junk yard? Well they are now revived and ready for any front porch or patio. So beautiful and given a new life saved from the crushing machine. I just get excited when I look at them because they are fantastic.  One new discovery I found while cleaning the chairs they are not alike at all.  If you look closely at the pictures you will see one is a bit small and the design is different on the backs.

These guys needed a lot of TLC because of all the rust and no one cared for them for years. I had to spend the better part of a day brushing off the rust. I used a wire brush and slowly got it all off. There were a few spots I had to use the sander. I didn’t want to sand all over because I didn’t want to get  deep into the paint. Now that the rust is all taken care off I have a clean slate for the primer. I used Rust-Oleum professional primer for metal and gave it 2 good coats so that the rust wouldn’t come back or bleed through the paint. I let that dry over night. Now for the best part painting the chairs out in a beautiful color. I gave this a lot of thought I was all over the color wheel trying to decide. Red, no navy blue, no light blue, ooh cream, wow yellow and finally I decided on white. What a surprise right! I decided on white so they would have a crisp fresh look and would go with any decor. I started with a very light coat of paint and let it dry. I added layers of paint until I had full coverage. This is not a step you want to rush because if you do you will have runs. Slow and easy wins the spray paint race. These chairs are beautiful just they way they sit with a new Valspar paint job but I couldn’t help but to add an artist touch. So I added some stencil work using 3 different colors of acrylic paint. This took some time because I wanted to add the stencils in layers so I had to allow drying time between colors. I add the flowers to the seat and the dragon-fly to the back.  So now they are done! They are Vintage, shabby chic, beautiful, saved and recycled all in one.

It wasn’t necessary for me to put a clear coat on them because the Valspar spray paint did that job.  I used a paint for outside, metal and it had a primer built-in. So they are ready for any pool side patio party or a quiet sit on the front porch.  I’ve had several people see them already and they ask are they for sale? Yes they are for sale if you are interested please contact me through my blog or Facebook.  I would love to keep these chairs but I just don’t have room.  Maybe I need  a bigger house………. No I’d just have to clean more.

It just gives me such a high when I take something that is left for trash and give it new life. I find so many times that all it needs in TLC and it is like new again. These chairs are not perfect they have lots of flaws from the years of no care.  They still have lots of life left in them now that they are up cycled.  How many times have I seen people toss out what they don’t want to the trash and just give up on it. I don’t know who tossed out these chairs or why, but thank you! Its hard work sometimes to bring these things back to life but it’s so worth it when you are done.  I hope that you have a Blue Happy Monday it’s the best day of the week.
