1980 to 2016 Redo

December 9, 2016

How many of these wood piece’s were out there from the 80’s. I remember them well cause I’m pretty sure that I decorated my sweet little Heather’s room with many pieces just like this. The heart in the back is what gives it away as an 80’s craft show purchase. Greg went to Arkansas on a business trip and spent the weekend with his family. On his way back on Sunday he stopped at an estate sale in Little Rock. He bought this piece in a bulk deal with many other wood pieces. I was very proud of him and his purchase. You’ll be seeing the other piece’s sometime later on my blog.

This little bench didn’t take much to redo at all. I used Valspar Project Spray Paint in a taupe color. Before I painted I gave it a good sanding and then wiped it down really good. It soaked up the paint, not really sure how many coats it was just that it soaked up 2 cans of paint. It took almost a full day because of drying time between coats. Once dry I gave it one coat of clear finish.

What to do with that heart on the back. Hmmmmmm if I leave it the bench is nothing more than a repainted 80’s craft show bench. I went to Hobby Lobby and walked the store looking for something to add to it. It had to be big cause this heart is big. Deep in the store in the unfinished wood was this great little (big) button. I used Valspar Project Spray Paint in dark gray and painted it. I glued it to the back with Elmer’s wood glue and added the shoe string. Now it’s ready to sit at a back door for little ones to put their shoes on, in a family room for littles to watch TV or in their bedroom near a book shelf to sit and read their favorite book.

There is not a piece of furniture out there that can’t be redone. If it’s in pieces then use those pieces to make something else. Next week I’ll be showing you how I used bits and pieces from an old dresser to make a towel rack. I love doing this it’s a challenge that’s fun and thrilling. This little bench will be up at Doc Holliday’s Emporium on Friday the 9th at only $59.  I hope that your week was full of Blue Happy blessings and your weekend is full of Blue Happy memories.
