What A Jewel

January 5, 2017

At the beginning of my journey I met this trainer at the gym. She was a picture of fitness. I thought see was in her 20’s and I had no idea that she had 3 kids. As I attended her classes I got to know more about her. From day one she always had a smile for me. She was always willing to help me and she is still that same loving, helpful and giving person today. Leann has been such a big part of my success. Even when she calls me out in class when I’m slacking a bit. She calls me out all in the name of love and care.  I’m happy to call her one of my friends.

After her home was totally messed up by the hail storms in Wylie she was faced with repairs. She called me to come by and look at the colors she had picked for her home. She did a great job with the colors so she really didn’t need me to help her. As I was leaving that day I noticed a metal cross leaning against the wall. I ask where she was going to hang it. She showed me this niche in the hall way just before her living room. She hung the cross on a nail already there from where it was hung before. It’s hard to explain to you but sometimes I can get a flash in my brain. For me it’s an instant creative moment as to what something could look like or become if I tweak it. That happened right that moment when she hung the cross on the nail. I ask would she trust me to tweak the cross. She handed it to me and trusted me and here is what I did. It turned out better than I saw in my head.

I had and old wood cross in my studio for a while. I painted it black to start the process of redoing it. While that dried I got out my bags of beads. I divided them in to small cups by color so I could grab colors easy when I started applying them to the cross. It took a while but I finished it and the beading looks amazing. The niche is painted brown and the walls around it are turquoise. That makes the jewels in the turquoise family on the cross pop out. I took it to her this morning and she loved it.

I attached the metal cross by placing 2 drilled holes on each side of the cross arms. I painted the drilled holes out in black and attach the cross to the wood jeweled cross with zip ties. That way if they ever want to remove it they can. To finish it off I attach a heavy-duty hanger on the back because this baby is heavy now.

I enjoyed doing this for Leann and her family. I hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it. I’m having a great Blue Happy week and tomorrow is Friday. So happy for the weekend and a fun Saturday trip to Waxahachie for shopping the junk stores.
