What Do You See?

January 4, 2017

As a teacher I see many different kinds of kids from many walks of life. As a women in her 50’s I’ve seen many different kinds of people, good and bad. It’s hard sometimes to look beyond the outside cover and see what’s in their heart. It takes a lot to see beyond hatefulness and rudeness but if you give people a chance they might surprise you. I’ve met many of people who started out on my not so favorite list then ended up on my trusted friend list.

Years ago I met this very nice women at my son’s school. She tried her hardest to be friendly to me and I wasn’t having it. Back in those days (20 years ago) I was so miserable the only thing I wanted to do was complain, followed by eating to wash away my pain. Thank you Lord for not letting that sweet lady give up on me because today she is my very best friend in the world. Yes mine and Karen’s first encounter wasn’t such a pretty picture of friendship. Clearly we have come a long way and to be honest we couldn’t do life without each other.

This year I’m trying to look around me and search out those people I might have judged. I want to revisit those relationships and see if I misjudged someone because of what was going on in their life. Did I miss judge them because of pain they were having from their past or present. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some people out there that you should keep at arms reach. Some people in life are just miserable because that is what they want. I don’t do drama.

Giving things a second chance can apply to the decor and furniture around your home. Most of us get tired of things and toss them out. When all they really need is a new color of paint, new fabric added to the seat of a chair or give the piece new purpose. I knew early on in my house wife days I thought new was always better but in reality seasoned furniture is the better choice.  As are seasoned friends the best to have and last for years.

Recently I came across this beautiful chair in an auction. Not to many people where bidding on it. I placed a bid, that was my one and only bid on this item. No one else out bid me so it was mine. It needs nothing at all. The fabric is is excellent condition, the wood is painted out in the ever so popular gold so it’s ready to go.  Now some would say what will you do with one chair. Well let me tell you the beauty of this chair. Place it in a dinning room in the corner for extra setting during a gathering. Put in it your living area with a small side table and you have more setting for family or guest. I love to have an extra chair in any bedroom for sitting and putting on shoes. All this chair needs is to be a part of a home that can see the beauty.

Looking deep within yourself to find beauty isn’t easy at times, but it worth a second look. It’s hump day almost the weekend. It’s already a great day because I remembered what day it was. Have a Blue Happy Wednesday!
