$2 Redo

September 11, 2015

Okay this by far is the best redo ever. Not only did it cost one dollar but I only used about one dollar of paint and clear coat finish. I love love love this one.

About a year ago I was at an estate sale with my husband. The sale was in its last hour so the mark downs were great. I found this cute little board that had rusty old hooks on it. It was pretty dirty and beat up but I could envision it refreshed and given new life.

I brought it home and to tell the truth I forgot about it. I always have a stash of furniture and wood items and it got pushed to the back. I’ve been doing up a lot of furniture these past few months and the stack is getting a bit thin. While digging around I came across it and decided to do it up and let you share in the outcome.

I wanted to give it a bit of a nature look so I decided on green. I thought it went along with the bug theme hooks. It was really dirty and dusty so I had to use a bit of mild soap to clean it. I removed the rusty hooks a butterfly, fly and dragon-fly. It looked like they had been left out in the rain because they were so rusty. I could have cleaned them and spray painted them a color but I didn’t. I liked the rusty look it went along with the nature look. Sometimes things are perfect the way they are I didn’t want the rust to get on things that would be hung on the hooks so I used a spray clear coat to seal them. Two coats of the green followed by two coats of clear finish to get the back board all ready.

I gave a quick pass with my little sander to give it my favorite worn look. Before I attached the hooks on the front I flipped it over and put hooks on the back for hanging. I didn’t have to buy these hooks I salvaged them from a past project. I flipped it over to replace the hooks and for less than two dollars I had this amazing piece.

Sometimes we overlook items in our home that we are tired of. We toss them out or store them in the garage and forget about them. When all they need is a refresh and a bit of TLC. I forgot about this piece, so glad I found it again and made it Blue Happy.
