Welcome To My Studio

January 8, 2016

Well it’s reveal day here at Blue Happy.  This day has been a long time coming and had many hills to climb.  The build started in May and hit a bump in June with some unhappiness.  This was followed by weather, school starting back, Greg sick and in the hospital for 5 weeks, then home care for 6 weeks, then the holidays and finally finished. I’m so tired, but it’s that good tired and I’m so happy to be on the other side of done.

I have had many studio spaces in my life time but none have compared to this space.  So much love has gone into this and so many hours of hard work.  My husband has shook his head so many times and ask WHAT!  My son has decided that I’m a bit off my rocker with all these idea’s I get in my head.  Our friends John and Tim laugh as they leave from working because they can leave and Greg has to stay.  All that said I have never felt so loved, as they all put so much time and energy into this build.  I can’t thank them enough for their help.  It’s a big BBQ this summer boys and I’ll fix your plates while you float in the pool, you deserve it!

Over the past few days I have shared with you projects I have done to pull it all together.  I shared special art that is built right into the walls, the recycled floors and pallet walls, all the vintage organizing and shelves.  So today I just want to share with you the over all project.  Every detail I could think of that I always wanted in a studio is in there.  I wanted to use as much recycled materials as possible and that I did.  I used old doors for walls so I would get lots of light from the windows in the door.  I put wood where the door knobs should be and added hooks to hang things.  I used an old bar height table with 2 bar stools and put it under a window so I could use the light for sketching.  I have a long table on one end that for now is a folding table covered with a table-cloth.  Greg is in the process of finishing a beautiful wood table that will be amazing.  I love the mix match chairs I like to move around a table and work on several projects at a time.  This long table will be great for moving back the chairs and putting a piece of furniture on it as I work.  At a thrift store in Forney Texas I found a cute 1970 wood paper towel holder so I attached it to the wall.  I love having things handy and easy to grab.  I’ve added many special things that make me feel happy and make me smile, that is so important to me.  I love the old window attached to the wall that displays  a few of my favorite Bible verses.  I like having those all around me to cover my work space with His word.  There is a green cabinet in the back of the room that use to be used in a hardware store to hold nuts and bolts, it now holds all my supplies.  A  Delta Brush display cabinet that I snagged at Rusty by Design Auction to hold all my brushes.  There is a deck on the outside that will be extra space to work when the Texas warm weather returns.  I’m looking forward to that time of relaxing, creating and just being in my space.

With all the recycled materials the cost of all the other materials came in at $1656.  That includes all the trips to the auction, thrift stores, garage sales, Lowes, Home Depot and Hobby Lobby.  If it wasn’t purchased at a store it was a recycled material that I picked up off the side of the road or someone gave it to me.  Even my bestie Karen picked up and gave me 3 pallets for the recycled walls and ceiling.  All in all it’s just how I wanted it, just how I dreamed it would be and just how I hoped it would come out.  I couldn’t ask for any thing more.  Please enjoy these pictures and have a Blue Happy Day!
